I have a Q drive and yesterday used a program called Super Duper to back up everything on my Mac. Well since then when the hard drive is turned on all my desktop icons disappear and I cannot access the finder. I plugged the drive into my other Mac and erased the contents but once I plugges it back into my iMac and turned it on the same thing happened-all my desktop icons including Mac disappear.

I also use Overflow (launcher) and when I close Overflow with the hard drive on I even lose the menu bar on top. If I turn the hard drive off the icons reappear. Any help would be appreciated.

Is ther any automation settings in S D pointing to that drive or something? CHeck your startup items, located under your user acct setup in the system prefs. It must be trying to mount the drive in soem way to use for a backup process.

Shut down the iMac, boot holding the SHIFT key util the grey apple screen is off. This puts you in safe boot mode, see if the drive mounts properly.
