Time Capsule backups are taking way too long

Way longer than previously used drive connected to an iMac on my network.

It can take 20 minutes to "prepare backup" and will copy files then just sit there with more to copy, then I've seen it take 30+ minutes to "finishing backup". Been on the phone with Apple for an hour.

Straight file copy is more than twice as fast as it was to the iMac drive but backups used to take 10 minutes and now they're over an hour.....every backup.

yeah TC is very, very slow. I got the 500 gb model and got sick of it really quickly.

First, it was kinda a pain to set up to my network initially. Sure, after a few hours I got it working fine but still, this is an Apple product which means it should and, was touted as being, easy to set up for anyone.

I'm not a Mac/computer wiz but I'm no slouch either and for it to have taken as long as it did to set up was the first sign of buyers remorse. The second was the slow as molasses execution of the product.

During the initial Time Machine back up it took several hours to copy around 30 gigs of hdd space compared to the usb 2.0 exhdd that I'd been using (and ended up switching back to) which copied the same amount of space in around an hour or less. So far this is the only Apple product I've bought that I regret.

The only saving grace to my stupidity at buying TC on a whim instead of reading up about it more thoroughly is that at least it was the "cheaper" model and not the more expensive one.
