Magsafe power adapter question

Please forgive the n00b question.

I'm using the magsafe power adapter on my new macbook which came yesterday. I love the macbook:-)

I have a small question. Does the magsafe adapter provide any protection against power surges? Do I need to go and get a surge protector?

    No, it is not a surge protector. Always good to have one of those on hand.
