how do I make an alias of my home folder, when i go the the file menu the alias option is dimmed out, and cmd-l doesnt work

    Hold down Command and Option, and drag your home folder to wherever you want it.



    The reason the commands you mention didn't work is that the Users folder cannot be changed, and that would have been the default location for your folder. But you control where the alias will go when you drag it, so the off limits issue is moot.
