I understand that the single quad processor in the 2008 Mac Pros has a different system board than the dual quad processors. Are there any other differences? Power supply? Cooling layout and capacity? Such differences could affect decisions on extra equipment, such as video cards, disk drives, and maybe others.

ps. Is there a reason that a higher speed quad processor isn't available in the single processor board?

Some digging seems to have produced the answer for me. The only APPARENT difference is that the single quad has a hole for the 2nd quad processor and a dummy plate for its heat sink. I also think the system board circuitry would have to configured for a specific speed processor so that it is not a matter of simply swapping in a higher speed processor.

But the single quad board should draw less power and generate less heat, an advantage. Is there somewhere to find the incremental power requirements of addons?
