"Next release of Mac OS X, Jaguar"
obviously a big upgrade, but what's up with the cheesy ass name?

Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar... all of OSX's builds are named after big cats.

We've known that this is the codename for a long time. What's with the surprise?
This seems to be happening more and more often... Just like Jobs proudly announced the latest G4s by their code handle, as 'Quicksilvers'.
As Apple's product nomenclature gets more minimal, the code names get more publicity.
Critic!
I'm open to suggestions, Greyisbad. Any suggestions to better 'Jaguar'?
Personally, I like it. Cool.
Codenames are sexy. Builds up the loin salivating levels of industry and fan expectation.
Corporate masturrrh-bay-tion.
The real question is..., 'Will the Jaguar have teeth?'

Next will be dogs.

<strong>?To get our developers even more excited, we?ll be giving them a sneak peek at the next release of Mac OS X, code named Poodle.?

Hmmm... there's something about THAT codename that doesn't have the same ring as 'Jaguar.' Maybe they should stick to big cats.
It will be the first Mac OS codename in history that less than 50% of Mac users will be able to pronounce correctly. Of course, certain wankers from Britain would claim that has already been accomplished with Jag-u-ar. Stupid brits...can't even pronounce jag-wahr correctly.

Just kidding of course. I don't think all Brits are stupid; most of them just don't know how to pronounce Jaguar. No one's perfect.

<strong>I'll second the Dog naming strategy. I look forward to information on the "Mastif" OSX</strong><hr></blockquote>
No way, if they're going to use dogs they should use sighthounds (the fastest dog breeds): Greyhound, Borzoi, Saluki, Basenji, etc. Those are cooler sounding than Jaguar anyway.
Kate
They could do a bird themed name range like Falcon - Hawk - Eagle.
How about names that could be taken out of text like - Swallow - Thrush - Tit.
Dobby
Of course I'm only joking. So I'm allowed to say things like that.
