I have a MacBook Pro 2.16 ghz with 2gb ram, 100gb 7200rpm hd.

It's taking an inordinate amount of time (10+ minutes) to repair permissions.

Is this a problem?

When my hd failed before this one, the Apple Store Genius said it shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

It has been awhile since mine have been under 10 minutes. It depends on how much stuff you have on your machine. My kids machines are usually around 10 minutes but they don't have very many apps but plenty of games and music. When you do yours are there things it will not repair? Mine has plenty that can not be repaired. As long as I don't have to wait for an operation or something quits I don't worry about it. I now only run repair permissions prior to and after an update to the system or app.

I can echo reg's post. When I repair permissions it usually takes at least 10 minutes or longer. And most of the time there are things that can't be repaired.

One question I have: When would you do "Verify Permissions"? If you're going to repair them anyway, why wouldn't you just always do "Repair Permissions"?
