Mute doesn't work for digital output
I listen to my Mac Pro's audio output through the digital output. Although keyboard volume control never worked before on the digital output (and that I can understand), mute (via the mute key on the keyboard or the mute checkbox in the Sound panel of System Prefs) at least did work.
Now even mute doesn't work. The checkbox in the Sound prefs panel is grayed out, indicating that mute is no longer an option when Digital Out is selected.
Has anyone else run into this problem? Any known work-arounds (other than giving up on digital output)?
I'm sure mute was working before under Tiger, when I had a Power Mac G5. I'm not completely sure right now whether it was the switch to Leopard, or the switch to the Mac Pro, that lost me mute functionality. I was running Leopard on the G5 for a while, but unfortunately I simply can't remember now if I had the problem then.
