Safari 1.3.2 Problem (!)

Hello there. I'm running Panther 10.3.9 and I've made a mistake with Safari. For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to install a new version of Safari, even though I hadn't been prompted to do so. Safari wouldn't then open as I cannot run the new version on 10.3.9, but it had deleted my old copy in the process. I tried dragging a version of Safari 1.3.2 across the network from an identical computer running 10.3.9, but Safari would still not open.

Since then I have tried everything I can think of, even using Pacifist to install Safari from the software install disc, but still no dice.

Please help me I'm in a desperate state!

Thanks thanks thanks.

    You will need to remove the current safari and install

    Safari version 1.3.2 for Mac OS X Panther improves website compatibility, application stability and support for 3rd party web applications.

    Please note Safari 1.3.2 installer requires the user to have Safari 1.3.1 in order to install.

    Download Safari 1.3.1 ==> http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/np...pdate1.3.1.dmg

    and Safari 1.3.2 ==>

    http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/np...pdate1.3.2.dmg

    Safari installs parts to work with the system and replacing both of these should get you back to before the safari upgrade attempt.

    Yes but the problem is that when I try to select the drive to install Safari 1.3.1 onto, it says 'this system cannot use this software'. I found another forum where somebody was having the exact same problem and wrote about how he fixed it. I will try this then report back.

    Try removing this file before trying to re-install. Make a zip of the following file first.

    System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework

    This is installed with Safari and will more than likely be not allowing the re-install of lower versions.

    Once removed and zipped try the Safari 1.3.1 install first and if needed use Pacifist which by passes the OS X installer which may still not allow it to be installed. If Pacifist installs it re-boot and the install Safari 1.3.2 and reboot again for it to take affect and use the webkit for that version of Safari again.

    What determines whether or not a software package has the proper version is the receipt package. The OP should drag Safari.pkg to the Desktop. It can be found in the following location: /Library/Receipts/Safari.pkg. The OP should then be able to reinstall an older version of Safari.
