12" PB charging problem...?

Hello all,

I have a 12" 1.5 gig Powerbook. It works great, but recently I have noticed a small problem.

Sometimes when I plug it in and it goes to "sleep", it does not charge. The charging light will stay green, and not turn orange like it is supposed to.

You may come back hours later, and find that the percentage of battery has not gone up.

If you turn off the computer, and plug it in, the light will stay orange, and it will charge fine.

The battery still holds a good charge....at 80% it keeps about a 2 hour charge.

I really don't mind turning off the laptop when it needs charging, but it was better when I did not have to.

Do I need to replace this battery, or is it worse. My local Mac "expert" told me I may have to do something soon.......if I don't I could hurt my laptop. He said the "DC board" could be going bad. He said that on the 12" powerbook, it is a separate board and it is not too bad.

Should I be concerned? Should I buy a new battery first?

I thank you in advance for your help.

Frank D.

I'm going to guess that your battery is actually old and need replacement.

Try taking the battery out and running the laptop. If it acts normally then I'd get a new battery.

Apple laptops do flunky stuff when the battery is almost dead.

    Thank you Mydo.

I also thought I'd switch batteries with my kid's powerbooks and see.

    Thanks! Frank D.
