For those of us going to WWDC, you probably received an iCard from SJ....

"It's a very exciting time to be a Mac developer! Please join us on May 6th at WWDC 2002 for a sneak peak of "Jaguar", the next major release of MacOS X.

see you there,

- Steve"

AIBB BOF, anyone?

With each little note and tease, it's all the more apparent that Apple is deliberatey avoiding the version number of the future Jaguar release. IMO this would also suggest that they are deciding whether or not to call it version 10.2, though they seem to be leaning against it. Otherwise, they wouldn't go to such pains to avoid calling it 10.2. Compare this to Mac OS 8.7, whose name was revised a few months before its release to Mac OS 9.

'sneak-a-peak'.... I have a feeling those who attend will get more than that.

jutus, I received that iCard as well, but I had no plans to go to WWDC. What does that mean for me?

They must have accidentally used their "enemies" list to send the iCard.

talked to a pretty high up Apple engineer yesterday and he says he doesnt even know what the name will be. Funny thing is that he said that he reads rumor sites like anyone else seeing that info is so compartamentalized.

    Ah well.

Doesnt make much difference if its .2 or .5

The only reason I find the lack of version number interesting is that it would be a clue as to the scope of the "major" update. But I suppose the public demo of it at the keynote will answer that question anyway.

when does beta 11 go back to? Pre MWNY right? Been seeing it floating around LimeWire... I mean Fern... and HL/Carracho/KDX servers a while now.

Guess we'll be seeing fresher stuff in a few weeks... hopefully. I made a second partition on purpose for testing

It's ancient. It's not beta 11 as such, but build 6B11. They are up to 6C28 as of last week.

6B11 was built and distributed back in November or December. retroneo is correct: is is ancient! ZO: there have only been two or three leaked builds since then (6B23 and 6B29 if I recall correctly) and they too were from early December. How old are these builds? Here's a hint: they still came with iTunes 1.x!

As for getting "inside" info on recent build numbers, it's somewhat publicly available. I'd suggest poking around *.apple.com (remember that "www" isn't Apple's only address) but don't expect to find anything much more than some Darwin bug reports.

    AMEN.

10.2 is gonna be a big deal. It will be demoed & written up in advance of release; it will be for sale; it will cost shipping & handling (and there's precious little hope that people will even pretend to a little maturity on this issue - look out for endless, mindless reiterations of the s.o.s.) for those of us who have upgrade coupons.

I predict AI will become uninhabitable (for thinking beings, anyway) as 10.2 and MWNY approach.

I did receive it and I have no plans whatsoever to go there. This is the _third_ invitation I received to this WWDC.

Somehow, this sounds like the number of developers participating is way lower than in previous years.

Any juicy tid-bits you'd be willing to share with us? I seem to recall seeing a pic of 6C40 a while ago though...

Jaguar will be a free update, you can count on it. Apple may be dumb but they aren't stupid.
