Macbook Pro 15.4" Replacement Optical Drive (strange sounds)

I have a first generation Macbook Pro 15.4" with Core Duo 1.83GHz. As pretty much everyone knows the MatsuSHITa UJ-857 drives that come with these units are seriously flawed. After getting tired of the drive not being able to read 70% of writable discs I threw at it, I got really fed up and decided to order a replacement. After doing a bit of reading I decided to go with LG model GWA-4080MA. This drive meets the low form factor requirements of the Macbook Pro. The new drive reads and writes very well, but with one major problem. The drive makes very loud "clanking" sounds when it spins the disk. It sounds like two pieces of metal slapping against each other.

I remember a long time ago I found someone on the internet who did the LG drive swap and had the same issue. They claimed that the vibration problem could be solved by placing a rubber washer in a certain location. However, I have not been able to find the article again, and I am wondering if anyone in here knows how to do it.
