Hi everyone,

I am currently living in student halls and I went away for a few days and unplugged everything as I did. On my return I merrily plugged everything back in, including my broadband internet cable. Having done this I found that neither MSN messenger for mac or safari would work. However Firefox is working perfectly. I have done network diagnostics and it says that my internet is working fine and frankly I am completely lost?

My machine is an imac G5 and I am running Tiger.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Which version of Safari and MSN mesaanger are you using?

Are you running any form of firewall?

This is a strenge problem, since it seems like your internet is connected. Have you rebooted since seeing this problem? That fixes this sort of thing 90% of the time.

Did you have to setup a proxy server connection before in order to connect?

System prefs > Network > choose the network interface > proxies > http proxy

Firefox has its own proxy configuration settings found in preferences > advanced > network > settings.
