Replacing MacBook hard drive

The hard drive in my 13" MacBook is user replaceable. It's also connected to a little metal shield with four "nubs" coming off the sides, and piece of plastic that lets you tug the drive out. Do I need to remove this piece of metal and put it on my replacement hard drive? The replacement seems to slide in snugly and fit without it.

Also, if I were to remove it, which I need to do fit the drive into an external drive casing, regardless of the need for swap out purposes, what tool would I use? The nubs seem to be turnable, but not with any screwdriver or tool that I own...

Thanks in advance for any help!
