Dust
A while ago I posted about my Mac Pro crashing frequently and other anomalies. I finally gave in and contacted AppleCare. The first time they suggested either sending it off to them (which I couldn't do at that point in time -- too busy) or doing an archive and install. I did an archive and install and it didn't help at all. So I contacted AppleCare again, and the guy I talked to basically said that it was probably a hardware problem (which I had already surmised) and that I should bring it into an Apple-authorized retailer. Towards the end of the conversation though, he did mention that I should open up the Mac Pro and check for dust build up. I did this, found about 1/4 inch of dust on the GPU air intake. After I removed the dust, the Mac Pro has been back to normal.
So the nemesis? Dust.
So the nemesis? Dust.

That is why we never put our towers on the floor any more.
I guess I should consider moving my tower to somewhere other than the floor then.
