Cinema Display Puts 15" MBP to sleep

I am using a 15" MBP with a 20" Cinema Display. About a month ago the monitor kept putting the MBP to sleep if I plugged it in and everytime I try to wake it back up it goes back to sleep in about 5 seconds?

Steps:

Close lid on MBP

MBP goes to sleep

Plug in the Cinema Display and USB cable

Press power button on Cinema Display (used to wake/sleep laptop)

MBP awakes, background shows on Cinema Display for about 5 seconds

MBP goes back to sleep

This is frustrating, I can't even use my $600 monitor?

Any ideas?

The key is that it has to be plugged in. It can drive a second monitor if it is open, but if you want it to function with the lid closed, you have to plug it in.

I do have the power cable plugged in, that does not seem to help or make a difference for me? I am using a blue tooth mighty mouse, which I have followed these exact steps but still get the same result. When the lid closes, the MBP goes to sleep, I wake it up by clicking on the mouse or keyboard, it wakes for a second but instantly goes back to sleep...?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Okay.

    Shut the laptop down.

Plug the laptop into the wall.

Plug the Cinema Display into the wall.

Plug the Cinema Display connectors (DVI, USB, FireWire) into the laptop.

Connect a wired mouse to the wired keyboard, and connect that keyboard to the back of the Cinema Display.

Open the lid of the laptop, and press the power button.

As soon as the grey screen appears on the laptop screen, close the lid.

Wait a few minutes and the Cinema Display SHOULD spring to life.

Sometimes you have to disconnect and reconnect everything and force the laptop to boot with the lid closed to kick-start everything,

If that works, try it again with the wireless input devices to see if they work.
