Mac OS X lacks kernel support for PPP *HELP PLS*

To include PPP support in the kernel, please follow the steps in the README.MacOSX file.

I'm in big trouble, I need to dial in to get my email for work. The above error message came up in the console, and I have no idea how to fix this and where I can find the file README.MacOSX.

Please help urgently!

you messed up, but don't worry, this is an easy fix(for me it was). Download Psuedo form VT. Now find the real finder in /System/Library/CoreServices. Make sure it is not the fake finder(in the info window.) Once you have root access, go to the System folder again, and drag all of the disabled files back to their locations in /System/Library. Once that is done, logout, and log back in.

to gain root access in the finder, find the real finder in /System/Library/CoreServices. Make sure it is not the Fake Finder, it will say in the Show Info window. Now launch Psuedo, and drag the icon of the real finder into Psuedo's window, and type in your password.

the disabled files are stored in /System/DisabledKernelExtensions. Just simply move these from the DisabledKernelExtensions folder to /System/Library/Extensions. Now restart.

Sorry if my first post was confusing, I hope this is better.

[quote] the disabled files are stored in /System/DisabledKernelExtensions. Just simply move these from the DisabledKernelExtensions folder to /System/Library/Extensions. Now restart.

this simply doesn't happen, there is no folder "DisabledKernelExtensions"

I have checked the extensions folder and there is a file PPP.kext, this is I think the extension it is looking for, somehow it doesn't work I think.

    any other suggestions?

well, my only advice would be to look in any other "Disabled" folders and see if there is any thing that has to do with PPP, and also look in the "DisabledStartupItems" and "DisabledSystemFiles" folders for anything.

sorry, but this is my only advice

You might be better off backing up your users folder and reinstalling the OS. Reinstalling the OS should leave your original users folder intact and only replace what's missing but if there are problems you'll have a back up available. The next thing you should do is get Carbon Copy Cloner (which you can find at Version Tracker) and make a back up copy of your drive so that if you have this problem again all you have to do is wipe your corrupted drive clean and copy back the clone from your backup drive.

Thanks for all your help. Finally I'm able to dial in again...

    This is what I've done:

    Removed the following before installation(upgrade):

    SymOSXKernelUtilities

    InternalModemSupport.kext

    PPPoE.ppp

    PPP.kext

    System

Different from what you said, but it worked..
