Lack of SCSI support in 10.2 DP

Posted:
in macOS edited January 2014
Just got done doing the 10.2 DP install and retrograde thing. It installed fine on my QS, but didn't like my scsi cards, even after I installed the driver. I have both an Adaptec 39160 and an Atto UL2D. DP will install under the Atto card, but not the Adaptec (big suprise huh). Then after booting up with the Atto card, DP still would not see the 39160 or the drives attached to it. So needless to say, I am back to 10.1.4 thanks to carbon copy cloner. Just thought I would report in.

Didn't you hear? Apple says IDE is just as good as SCSI now, so no need for SCSI support anymore

I'm so SHOCKED that a pre-release, pre-alpha operating system meant for *developers only* doesn't currently support all your hardware. Amazing!!

Just because Jobs says that ATA is just as fast doesn't mean that they will arbitrarily prevent users from using 3rd party SCSI expension cards.

    Look to your card manufacturers.

It's not up to Apple to support all of your 3rd party shit.

I think the alarm was raised over the fact that an Apple OEM SCSI card might not even work. You'd like to think that the cards Apple is shipping standard on your box will still be supported.

I was being sarcastic, and I think everyone here is right when they remind Lovejoy that it's just a developer preview. They may have temporarily removed SCSI support because it broke something, or it's implementation in jagwyre may just be incomplete.

    *shrugs*

Ignorance, hardly, suprise yes. Yes it is DP and yes not all functions work, BUT I ASSUMED that disc support would be a high priority. Silly me for thinking that. Even the Apple logoed scsi card is not really supported. As for 3rd party cards, I agree that it is up to the card manufacturers to keep up with Apple, no question. I fear that my ASSumption got the best of me My post was not aimed at being a "bitch-session" of an unreleased product. Like I said in my final comment, just reporting in. If you take it that way, you take it that way. Anyway no great loss, just a loss of 20 min out an otherwise slow day.
