Time Machine - Fun with error messages

Lately, Time Machine has been churning away in the background (I can hear the hard drive working and there is a slight slow down) and then after awhile it throws up an error message saying that the backup couldn't be performed because of an error. It's not anymore informative than that.

Now today it threw up this error which, as you can see, is quite strange...

Bug, perhaps?

I find time machine to be very buggy. doesn't matter if I plug in (any) external drive with firewire, usb2, or through airport extreme that after a few days it gives some kind of error, usually the write protected one that everyone is getting.

time machine, so far, is not quite ready for production, imho.

for your issue, try repairing permissions using Disk Utility. might help, maybe not.

Yea I've had that happen. Make sure you have a machine name set in the sharing pref. Also there's a Mac OS that just came that address that error message.

like the previous poster wrote, 10.5.3 is supposed to fix that.

for my issue, after downloading 10.5.3, i have reformatted the disk (again) losing my backups, but its working for at least the short term. I have no expectations of a reliable timemachine backup.
