Heh, Macsoop comes in with the cold water:

iPhone 3G: No GPS, Same Old 2MP Camera

The next major revision of the iPhone, expected during this year's World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9, could be a major disappointment for those who were expecting more than 3G connectivity on this new model.

Sources who can be trusted told MacScoop that the next iPhone will of course have 3G connectivity, but not much more, as it will lack built-in GPS chip and include the same old 2Mpixel digital camera.

Every rumor monger alway says they have a source they can trust. Now I'm waiting on a rumor to say that a new iPhone won't be announced at WWDC.

I think it's a certainty that a lot of people who post on forums are going to be disappointed.

I wasn't expecting GPS on the assumption that Apple would think Googles triangulation via cell towers would be good enough for most users.

An Apple event where people will be disappointed. Gasp.

That's a rare occurrence - it usually only happens every 6 months or so.

There's a 50/50 chance of you being right, but there's also a 50/50 chance that we're both wrong.

People can get their threads ready. "Apple has lost me as a customer. Sure the iPhone is revolutionary but without GPS and a 10MP camera the iPhone is useless for me."

IMHO, I think Apple knows what the people want; and they know the people are looking for more than just 3G, especially if they want to keep up with the new LG's, and Samsungs.

I want two things. I want to get on the network at work which requires 802.1X which is coming. I want iCal on the phone to subscribe to my read only google calendar like desktop iCal does. Happy me.

If Novell wants to come out with a good client for the iPhone I'll use that. But they can't make a good client for windows desktop so ...

Im not bothered about GPS as GMaps is fine as it is for me. To be honest im not even that bothered about 3G but the normal model is sold out so ill just get whatever is out. Although the 3g model is using an upgraded chip so it should allow for video recording at least.

Having said that Apple will find it very hard to defend themselves if that is the best they can come up with a year on from iphone. Although it could be good for the GPS thing with it being external. Maybe this will force Apple to actually make use of the bluetooth properly rather than leaving it in its crippled state as it is right now.
