New assisted gps

Ok, thank god that the iphone finally has traditional gps. But, I have to ask the question. Are we still going to have to push the little arrow to go from direction to direction? Are we going to get a cute female voice to tell us when to turn? or are we going to have to stare at the iphone so we know exactly when to turn and it will go along with us. Basically, is this going to work like a gps device would if you plastered it on the dash of your car, or is just a step up from the maps that we have had for the past year?

thoughts?

My thought is that since most of the "guts" of GPS are included in the iPhone the "Turn by Turn" and voice enabled stuff is but clever programming to be done to hook in the innate hardware.

Perhaps we could see a few vendors contesting for our GPS support.

I never thought of the 3rd party aspect of it. I'm sure there will be plenty of developers ansy to get there voices screaming from the iphone turn left in 200 yards

From the video it seems that you still have to hit the buttons. But ... you know ... I have to think that Apple knows they should make a real navigation app.

Where was Google at the keynote today
