Free iTouch: New one in Sept 64gb?

Hello.

After trolling a few of the boards, everyone seems to think that the new itouch will be out in September, SPECULATED to be a new case with increased capacity.

However, Back to school promo ends Sept 15th with the 299 free 8gb itouch.

Apple generally lets you upgrade for free if it's within 6 weeks...right?

So, since I'm waiting until August for the new MBP, and when I order a 32gb itouch, would I be able to upgrade for free to the 64gb itouch even though it's a promo?

We've discussed the release of the new MBP for weeks, so don't you dare bring it up! It's coming out in August of I'll drive to Tailpipe's Mom's basement where he lives unplug his air-vent to that bubble he lives in.

I guess you mean iPod Touch and I doubt you'll get a free upgrade for stock they're giving away during a promo

If you really believe that what we think has any bearing on reality, I have a 64GB iTouch to sell you now.

Speculation is a nasty thing to read when it comes to Apple. The facts are that only a select few people at Apple know what is happening for sure and they don't talk. Never believe rumors they'll only disappoint you in the end.

Now, if you didn't call it an iTouch we wouldn't have necessarily thought that you had no idea what it was you were talking about right away.

It's safe to assume that some sort of iPod touch refresh will hit before the Christmas buying season. Whether that's going to be September, October or November - we don't know.

Looking at the buyer's guide a lot of past refreshes happened in September. But the past doesn't have to be an indicator here.

I think the more interesting question will be - will there be any new hardware features, and if so will these be in sync with a new iPhone?

Since the iPhone 3G is basically an ever so slightly upgraded current iPhone I wouldn't be surprised to see a new 'high-end' model come out in January or perhaps even November this year. Something with a front-facing camera supporting video chats/conferencing, etc. If that's to happen within the next 6-8 months, it could very well be that the iPod touch would get some similar hardware features around the same time.

So perhaps a 64GB option for the iPod touch and 32GB option for the iPhone 3G in September/October, and then a new model for both in Jan-Mar 2009.

With OLED screen perhaps, to make it even thinner and less power hungry.

I'm glad you clarified things by saying "trolling" rather than "trawling".

    WTF is iTouch?

No it's not that, they just hate that term. Most Mac users do. I think about 98% of this forum does anyway.

Is the ipod touch worth the premium over the classic ipod?

The classic and Touch are 2 very different products. It depends on what you need.

The classic is aimed at people with huge music libraries. The Touch is for music, web browsing, videos and applications.

So you need to ask yourself what are you going to use it for? If you have a 60GB music library then you're going to have lots of displeasure selecting which music goes on the touch. Only you can decide what product is best.

Good points. For videos is it possible to put random MPG clips on it or does it have to be a itunes downloaded video?

I'm guessing with 3rd party software you could add random MPGs. Through iTunes I'm guessing it's just the downloaded Movies/TV shows?

    Anyone got a better answer?

FOr me it's a lot simpler than that. I have an original 8GB iPhone and it does everything music wise I need it to. My Music library is probably bigger than any iPod can hold, but I don't listen to my entire library daily. Although it's closer to 300 days of straight playtime if I were to try, and that's just not feasible.

I have like 20 playlists that I make up for whatever mood, or situation, new purchases, or whatever that I need and throw them on there, but I usually just listen to an "on the go" list that I make out of all of them. That's like a mix of current new music, and some classics (classics in my mind) that get me hyped. Putting all my music on one iPod seems ridiculous. I just don't listen to even half of that stuff anymore. Not regularly. I don't need the whole Edgar Winter library with me when Frankenstein will probably suffice.

I only put movies and TV shows on there when I'm flying, and music videos are pointless for the most part. How many times do want to watch a music video?

60GB of music is more than your going to listen to in a day. 15GB's is about 10 days worth.

The internet I use, but not as much as I thought. Email is the one feature that is essential. I love email from the iPhone. It keeps me in touch, but for the most part it's an iPod with a phone. it's one less thing to carry.

Yes you can encode video for the iPhone/iPod Touch using 3rd party software.
