Tons and Tons of Spam---what to do?
I use two email addresses; one .mac address and one from a provider that has no usefulness now except that the address is "my first name@my last name.net. Catchy, but not essential. I get absolutely no sexual spam, but I get as many as 20 a day congratulating me on the $20,000,000 I have won, been awarded or could join a crook in sharing from Nigeria, UK or some other land of opportunity. Before I cancel the ego account, could you help me head this spam off at the pass?
I can call most of it junk on my iMac, but it all comes, unfiltered, to my iPhone. And, without mass delete, I am spending an inordinate amount of time deleting these opportunities from my iPhone.
Your suggestions..............

yeah, the iphone delete sucks, agreed on that. my thumb hurts thinking about it.
how about a new .mac address, and set up a filter that forwards your good email to it and set up that one on your iphone? I think that is possible...

Thanks, I am going to look into that, but isn't there an easier way, like a spam filter or the use of spam tricks in my existing addresses. Does Gmail do better?

Since I haven't been getting too much help YET from the Appleinsider community, I have been working on my own. Is it possible, and it certainly seems so to me, that Gmail does a marvelous job filtering spam. So far, 10 emails that would have gotten into my inbox were sidelined and put in the spam folder. Any other thoughts will be heartily appreciated. Thanks
Is the ego account also a .mac account that you redirect to your own domain or do you have a separate provider that you pay for your ego account? If you pay someone else then see if they can't do antispam on that email for a few extra dollars. Or switch your ego domain to a hosting provider that will provide better antispam
I've used Hotmail, Yahoo!, Excite, Gmail, and .Mac and by far, by far the best antispam is Google. They do an extraordinary job at filtering spam.

Well, I am 4 days into Google. I have 165 spam emails caught before they got to me. Only one email went to spam that shouldn't have and only a couple questionable emails got through the spam filter. I would be hard pressed to think I could buy better service out of the chute than Google. I am sure this is the answer to my problem. I think I can overcome the ego account and go straight to Google soon.

Of course, by switching to Gmail you'll lose the push feature coming in MobileMe. I suspect Gmail will follow suit and eventually offer push email to feature enhance their Android platform but it may be some time before they offer that

Thanks, I know this is wise advice. I am testing my .Mac account to see how the spam filter compares.
