hard drive buzzing

Yesterday I installed a brand new Apple .5 TB drive in my computer. I have installed all of my software on it. But since the beginning, it has made a loud buzzing noise when it spins up. It seems to go in cycles, buzzing softly, then loudly, the softly again, then silent, then repeating the cycle. Can someone help with this? Do I need a firmware reset? Did the Apple Store sell me the wrong drive?
