Ok, this might be a stupid question, but I'm new to the Mac World, is there a way to turn off or completely darken the screen of a Imac, without turning of the actual computer?

Sleep corners have been suggested before as an option. Just set it to put your display to sleep when you move your mouse into the corner of the screen.

ctrl+shift+eject is what you're looking for. sleeps the screen, not your mac.
