hi there,

i just bought a WD 500gig external drive and will be using it for backups of certain folders.

i'm wondering if there is an easy way to do a backup with the imac OR if there is any synchronization software on the imac to do this??

if not, which is a good and free synchronization software that i could use?

thanks in advance

"Retrospect" is designed for such things (not sure about sync, but for backups)

If you have a .mac account, you can use Apple's "Backup" it does just what the name says. Or running Leopard, you can use Time Machine.

.Mac also has great sync features built into it.... mostly for syncing mail/contacts/bookmarks/etc across multiple computers. Though in July it is to be expanded to include the iPhone without having to plug it into iTunes (as I understand it.)

Chronosync is a good choice to sync folders. I've used it to do both backup to an external hard drive and to sync my desktop to my laptop. Relatively inexpensive and very reliable.
