I am converting from an older Macbook to a new one. I would like to transfer the emails I have saved in mailboxes "On My Mac" in the left hand column of the old computer. I have created a file on the old computer with File>import mailboxes. I am led to believe that has something to do with opening the file on the new computer, but that doesn't seem to be right. Can you tell me how to get these emails from the old computer to the new? Thanks so much....

Once you go File>Import Mailboxes, you need to tell Mail where your old mailboxes are.

If both your old and new computers are connected to the same network, simply set up file sharing (System Preferences>Sharing) and point Mail to this folder on the old computer: username/Library/Mail/Mailboxes

An even simpler solution is to use the Migration Assistant but that copies everything over from your old computer, not just Mail (although you can limit it somewhat) and you need to be connected via Firewire.
