Really slow startup

I installed 10.1.5 a few days ago. Usually when I start up the computer, I press the button and go and have breakfast. Today I sat down, pressed the button, started reading a magazine and five minutes later noticed the computer was still displaying the little mac. Has anyone else noticed a ten or fifteen minute pause before the computer gets to the spinning cursor? It seems rather annoying, since checking the drives out with the disk utility on a startup disk didn't find anything wrong.

I would just zap the pram a few times. Get it good.

You happen to install the QuickTime 6.0 Public Priview? I heard people are complaing it messes with you start-up drive selection. Try re-selecting it...

Otherwise yes, zap your PRAM (maybe a few times), run fsck -y (after starting up holding down open apple-S) until it says everything is OK, and maybe try MacJanitor freeware utility to run the daily, weekly, monthly maintence things on your system. Personally, I have had not trouble from 10.1.5 aside from my screen saver and energy saver automatic setting not working while running the newest version of AIM and my screen not dimming to black (just to barely viewable). It seems much nicer aside from these minor quirks.

If I shut my computer down regularly it starts up pretty quickly, but if I have to force a restart it starts up VERY slow.

I had that sort of problem with OS 9 on a G3. It would take an extra minute or so to start up after a force restart. If I recall correctly, there was a little bit of disk corruption somewhere. Fixed that, and it sped right back up again. This probably has nothing to do with this problem, but just in case...
