I have a new iBook with a DVD player in it and a Quicksilver G4 but it only has a CD-RW. I was wondering if there is any way to connect my iBook with fire wire or something and play a DVD on my G4 with my Pro speakers. Any suggestions? Why not just use the external display from your iBook to your bigger monitor, and hook the speakers up to the Audio Out port on it as well? Thats what I do.

Because I have a Apple studio Display that used ADC and my iBook dose not have that. And I have pro Speakers with that special connector that carry power and audio so both of those are out of the question.

unfortunately I don't think it's possible but you could give a shot by using file sharing and mounting the DVD on the G4 as a network disk and then seeing what happens.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work though

Just get a cheap DVD player for your TV or get a DVD or Combo drive to put in your G4.

That's what I did... I got a new internal Pioneer "SuperDrive" for my 533 G4 and as far as DVD Studio Pro, iDVD or DVD Player are concerned, they all see it as a built-in SuperDrive.

    Great investment!

You can network with some kinda firewire cable I think. Do that, run the disc on the G4 over the network?

    Worth a shot,

Here's an idea. Copy the DVD to your hard drive, and made a disk image of it. Hook your iBook to your tower via a firewire cable. Start up the iBook in firewire disk mode. See if you can play the DVD from the iBook's hard drive (and the Apple DVD player). You could try to play the disk while in firewire disk mode, without making the disk image, but I'm pretty sure this won't work at all.

Still, there's little point in doing this, as it would be terribly time consuming and probably a big hassle, but it might work. Sort of defeats the purpose of having a DVD drive, though. Good luck, though.

To do what Gamrin suggested, you'll need <a href="http://homepage.mac.com/occ/DVDPlayer3.11noDVD.sit"; target="_blank">a patch to allow the DVD player app to start up on the G4</a>. Normally, it won't run unless there's a DVD player on the machine.

Also, if it's a commercial DVD, it's probably copy protected, and copying to your hard drive may not work. You'll have to use something like <a href="http://www.opuscc.com/download/FTP/DVDBackup1.1.sit"; target="_blank">DVD Backup</a> to "back up" your DVD to your hard drive. Takes a couple hours, and doesn't always work.

I doubt this is what you really wanted to do, though.
