OS X 10.1 Update CD as OS X Installer?

Please correct me if this is wrong, But I've been told you can use your OS X 10.1 update CD as a Installer for the whole system. Like Install a clean installation of OS X .

I'm hoping you can help tell me how to do this. If possible.

    I can't remember exactly how, but you have to remove a file in the installer called Check OS X or something after you make a disc image of the cd. Do a search. I'm sure you can find it in a forum or somehting
