How would I be able to add a network user to my computer.

goto System Preferences. Click on `Users`. Add User (then fill in appropriate fields).
Now, that user can do ftp, ssh or login to any other kind of server on your computer.

That much I know how to do. What kind of network user I was trying to add was a user which account would be created in the users folder in the network folder found when you hit Computer in a finder window.
