Macbook college question

Ello! I'm looking to purchase a macbook for college, but not sure if I should do it now or in September when they upgrade.

I guess what I wanna know is if Apples upgrades are worth the wait, or if it doesn't really matter.

If it were me, I would wait for the upgrade, unless you're really in a hurry to buy a computer now. Most Apple products are evolving, which means they put out an imperfect product at first and slowly fix the glitches with each upgraded version.

The disadvantage of waiting is that you won't get a free iPod with your purchase if the Back to School offer ends. The advantage is that you'll get newer faster hardware

An upgrade is always going to be nicer than what it replaces, that isn't going to change. Having said that, the best time to buy is when you need one. Current models will suffice for college just fine. So, what it comes down to is your choice in the matter.

If you had put yourself in the place of waiting for the current model to be released, you'd be right where you are now. If you wait for the model following the next model, you'll be right where you are now. There is always going to be a new model on the horizon, somewhere.

Another school of thought says that you should wait for a new model to be released, then buy the current model at a reduced price. Still another viewpoint is to buy the latest model as it will be longer before that model won't run newer software releases in the future.

There is no right or wrong, there is only your choice.

MAYBE not faster enough for the user to notice.

The average speed bump will go unnoticed by the average user.

There is a rumor about new glass-touch-whatever MacBooks coming, which could be a big step up and away from where we are now. You might want to wait, if you can, but the advice to buy when you need it is very good.

If you are new to Macs, then having a month or two over the summer to play around with your new machine and applications might save you a little stress in the fall. As the poster above said, the current machines are plenty to get you through college. In my day we had desktops that ran at a blistering 7.2 MegaHerz; giga anything was just a dream.

Personally, I would buy now and play with the new toy over the summer, learning how to get things done, fast. I had a student who walked into a class once with a brand new machine that was better than any other in the room, yet he didn't have a clue as to how to use it and thus ended up taking notes on a legal pad he found in the trash.

I think that like me you should definitely WAIT! Atleast until a few days before college starts...

The upgrades are obviously worth the wait because it really sucks when you've just bought something and then a newer version of it is released!

Eh, I would wait but buy now if you must

If you buy now, you will still be getting a great machine that you won't regret buying one bit

That is always going to be the case, because there will always be a new model on the horizon. What ever happened to being satisfied with a purchase? Do you buy a new car every time a new model comes out, or look at your current car with disgust because it isn't the newest model out?

There's nothing particularly wrong with waiting, but it makes a lot more sense to wait if you know what you're waiting for. Nobody here knows what the next model will be like, OR, if waiting is justified for the majority. Buying the current model gives the user something to use while you're waiting. AFAIK, a college education is not going to be severely affected by the choice of the current model, or one not yet released. Don't let bells and whistles override good sense.

Finally, everyone that buys any model will eventually be faced with a newer model being released, so don't sweat it.

That's a really good way of looking at it... maybe thinking this way will make me feel satisfied if I do decide to buy a new MacBook before the newer model comes out, so thanks

You might want to get it now, though, before the back to school deal ends.

Getting a free iPod Touch and $100 off a printer makes the current education offer a very sweet deal.
