iPhone function after switching - SIM questions
So I hadn't planned on switching from my old 8GB iPhone to the iPhone 3G, not yet anyhow. But...this morning I dropped my iPhone and cracked the screen straight across. It's an awfully thin, insignificant crack and it doesn't hurt the functionality of the screen at all; I can't even see the crack unless I tilt it all the way over. While I'd rather not use it as a phone anymore, it would still suffice as an iPod Touch if you weren't picky.
Here's my question - if I upgrade to the iPhone 3G, will my old iPhone function essentially as an iPod Touch if I pull the SIM card out? More importantly, will it still be able to access the App Store and sync with iTunes if someone wants to add music to it? I'm considering wiping all the user-specific data and leaving it with my younger siblings as an iPod Touch, but that won't be much fun if they won't be able to download new games or add new music to it.
If they will still be able to use the iPhone with the App Store and with iTunes, how hard will it be to set it up under a different iTunes account? Will they have to get my username and password for the iTunes store to download?
Or, should I keep my money in my pocket, be satisfied with the iPhone that I have, and wait for the iPhone that is eventually released with the 3.0 software?
Thanks for any hints or tips.

For your iPhone 2G, if you pull out the SIM and just have WiFI on all the time, it should function reasonably well on 2.0 software.
It is definitely best to have a separate account for your kids/ other family with regards to games, iTunes App Store, iTunes Store and so on.
Yes you can play Super Monkey Ball on it AFAIK.
Share the iPhone love, and get on board the 3G bus.
