The Real iPhone (2nd Gen)
So the original "iPhone" was labelled "iPhone 1,1"
I think the x,x (example 1,1) means main release x (example, 1) and sub-release x (example, 1)
They also use this on their Macs for instance the current MBP is 4,1 and the new one will probably be 5,1
So the "iPhone 3G" (tactifully named b/c it could cause confusion with iPhone OS 2.0 and the fact it isnt iPhone 2) is labelled "iPhone 1,2"
So where is "iPhone 2,1" aka "iPhone (2nd Gen)"
Will it have the rumored videoconferencing features and the maybe the flip phone idea with the translucent multi-touch screen?
And what about the diversification of the product line with the iPhone nano etc.

You're reading too much into this. Or perhaps too much into comic books.
