Recommendations for Level 1 Raid device

I'm looking for a simple Level 1 raid that can be utilized over a gigabit ethernet network. I'd like to accomplish all this for a small budget, say under $500 for sure.

It will be used to archive data. Two drive bays are all that's needed. One for on premises, one for off premises.

The catch is, once the drives are filled, down the road, I'd like to able to simply put them in a tower to access the data. So the data cannot be proprietary to the device.

I'm currently using a SansDigital MN2L but the data will only work on this device.

Your thoughts are welcome.

For what you're proposing to do however I think you may find your self in the position of opting for an external box of some manufacturers flavour with eSata connections.

What I would do is go here and get a hot swapable external HD enclosure, buy 2 HD's of your size choice and you're all set to go. That way at anytime you can make that RAID expand as needed & not be limited to anyone's specify software. This way you can take out the HD and put it in a computer. I recently had a client drop their drive walking out their office, drop it on a corner of a concrete slab, it literally dented the metal enclosure on one side, killed one of the 1TB HD's and all I did was take out the bad one, hook it up to my computer, extract the data, & replace with a new HD. It's that easy and it sounds like the best solution for you. Hope that helps!
