Menu Items in Jaguar

So recently, I've noticed that a lot of 'thingies' that go into the menubar in OS X have been "upgraded" a an actual application that is aware of other items in the menubar, and places itself accordingly. This has happened in programs like MoonMenu and the latest Timbuktu Pro update. The downside to this is that I cannot command click and drag things aroung in the menubar like I can with the apple widgets.

So I mentioned this in my review for the latest Timbuktu update on VersionTracker, and someone chimes in to say that MenuItems won't be supported in jaguar, thus the reason for developers upgrading their programs that place 'thingies' into the menubar to actual applications.

Is this true?

".menu" items have never had a public API, if I recall correctly, and developers have had to reverse-engineer them. Thus, if Apple has been upgrading or changing them, the hacks would easily break.
