Billy: Hey dad, whats an operating system supposed to do?

Dad: Well Billy, an operating system is supposed to provide an environment where many different kinds of software can run well.

Billy: But Linux, OSX, and Vista do that well! How do I decide?

Dad: Well Billy, you have to now assess what kind of software you're going to be using. Which OS looks the most appropriate now?

Billy: Well, OSX is good for graphic design, but nearly all of its programs also run on Vista or have comparable software also for Vista. Linux has a lot of great software, but just can't really compete really with the huge libraries of software for Macs and Windows.

But in terms of number of software available, Vista seems to have the most. It also runs new and upcoming games, and also runs classic PC games while XP is left in the dust without DX10.

Dad: There you have it son, Vista, which is an operating system, runs FUCKING EVERYTHING!!!!

SO STOP BITCHING UNTIL THE OTHER OPERATING SYSTEMS CAN COMPETE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The point is that the best operating system for you is the one that runs the software you use the best. Not the software you don't use.

And once you add viruses to the equation... there's no way Vista runs the software I use as well as OS X.

Vista users should shut up until they don't have to cripple and slow down their systems with antivirus software and draconian firewall settings. And reinstall Windows every month because of the inevitable slowdown.

And from the main argument of the original post... no one should ever buy any hardware except a Macintosh... which RUNS FUCKING EVERYTHING... including OS X, Vista and Linux.

I think it's you that's doing the bitching round here. If you want to use Vista, or XP be my guest - use what you want. Switch between them if you want. Well actually, chances are you'll be switching from Vista to XP

If you came here for attention, you'll like get some. I switched to using the Mac from Windows because I preferred the OS, and it just so happens the quality of 3rd party software for the Mac platform "in general" is even better than the stuff you find on Linux or Windows. I've used all three OS's, a lot, and in general that's the rule. So I'm glad to be using the Mac, no regrets.

What I prefer about OS X is its constancy. Basically "every single 3rd party app" has their "Preferences..." menu option in the 'exact' same place, with the same keyboard shortcut. That's what's really great about OS X, its consistency, that's the real secret to OS X. And when you're fluent at doing everyday-tasks on an OS, and that OS happens to have better 3rd party consistency between apps, there's a pretty high probability you're going to be more productive on that OS, OS X.

Besides, OS X happens to look better (in my opinion), and is not as much of a resource hog as Vista. It's a quick, efficient, highly-reliable, powerful OS - that's why we like it. And we're not "bitching" about it.

    Get over yourself Jim.

As for games, I'm a PS3 guy, like the majority of the world. We use consoles.
