OS X update issues

I decided to finally upgrade my gf's iBook to OS X. I installed 10.1 and went to the Software Update app. However, it tells me that there are no available updates (which is obviously untrue).

So, I download the 10.1.5 universal update from Apple (45+ megs) and it tells me I need the installer update. I download that and when I go to install it, it doesn't let me select the boot drive to install it on. It is just greyed out.

Am I missing something?

You have to click on the little lock with the text next to it that says "Click Lock to Make Changes". Then you will have to provide Administrator Password. Then you should be able to select.

If you need to click the lock at an earlier stage of install (I forget) then I apologize for sending you down the wrong path.

i re-loaded my system from the software that came with my iMac recently (had an add on so-dimm problem that hard crashed my Mac)...it took me to 10.1.2...i tried to get back to 10.1.5 with software updater...SU didn't see anything...went to apple and tried the combo updater..didn't work either (wouldn't "see" my harddrive as usable)...i had to download 10.1.3 and update to that...then download 10.1.4 and update to that...then 10.1.5 and update to that...was a small pain, but not too bad since i have recently moved to cable...would have been hellish on a dial up....g
