iPhone sync sucks incredibly hard

They could not have made the sync WORSE. Impossible.

I am in a hurry this morning, heading to the dreaded jury duty. I thought, hey, I should download a TV episode and watch it during lunch. Of course I forgot how bad sync sucks.

Applications are being installed and re-installed (which takes forever). If you check 'do not sync applications' it tells you it will UNINSTALL all applications...which takes forever.

Can you cancel installing applications? noooooo, it cancels the complete sync.

Can you just add a couple of TV shows without spending 45 minutes to an hour with this damn sync process?

Not in this lifetime.

Give me a break Apple.

and of course if I click anywhere while it is syncing I get the spinning anus of Jobs.

Why can't I just have the option to drag and drop a TV show or have a check box that says "don't mess with my shit, just leave my phone alone and add what I tell you."

needless to say, i had to cancel the whole process and leave. 30 minutes = NO UPDATES.

crap.

A lot of people have found that the culprit for slow syncs is a USB hub. Plug directly into the machine. If you're still having a slow sync, try the other port... some models have one port on an internal hub.

Well - I reckon it's about time for a RTFM, seriously.

Sounds like you haven't configured iTunes at all ... and it's running amok when syncing

e.g Create a play list; drag your music and video to the list (set your iTunes to “manually manage music and video”), connect your iPhone to computer via USB cable, then click iTunes “File -> Sync iPhone”, Done. Or you can drag the files straight on to the iPhone icon in the sidebar.

Read pgs 59 and 60 of ye olde manuale.

I had experienced the same thing before and yep, the USB hub was the culprit.

no hub for me, just a lot of applications. i'm always installing and removing them on the phone and iTunes will schlep them back on for no reason and do all kinds of wacky stuff with the applications.

I think photo (and now video) management is abysmal. Let's say I take a crapload of photos, and now I just want to have them backed up to my computer. I want the SYNCHRONIZE the photos with a folder on my computer. Most folder synch apps out there will give you options as far as master/slave, date-dependent, not copying same files, etc. With iTunes, the ONLY option you seem to have is to compeltely erase everything on your iPhone and synch it with the copy of crap that's on your computer. That's so lame. For instance, all I want to do is keep everything the same on the computer, but just upload any new photos I've taken on the phone to the sync folder. Can't do it. Apple's notion of how people really manage photos and videos is retarded. I can't believe how inflexible and retarded iTunes is. And if it's not, then the interface doesn't help point you in the right direction. I think iPhone synching in general SUCKS!!!! big time.
