what may happen if Google will offer soon its FREE (Windows XP and Mac OSX compatible) operating system?

    Some people will download it, and then it will fail to live up to the hype, and then be terrified of all the data mining.

    There will be big hype and then people will just go back to Windoze... Or decide to go Mac.

    This is a noble effort from Google, but I don't really see the value. Google's desktop apps aren't bad, but they still lack the polish and function of their equivalents that are distributed and architected conventionally. It will be a while, I think, before this type of OS becomes a viable PC platform for most users. It may be better suited to terminals and/or appliance products.



    Data mining is probably not a major fear-point as there are already millions of users with Google Desktop on their PCs (Windows search is that bad), and for what it's worth Google's corporate slogan is "Don't be evil."

    it will die a miserable death...Google is a one trick pony. They got lucky with Search. The rest of their service is not making much money.
