Mac Pro: RAID card

Has anybody bought the hardware RAID card for the Mac Pro?

If so, have you noticed any difference in speed between software and hardware RAID?

I've able to set up a two-spindle and four-spindle software RAID 0 at the moment, and I'm wondering if the hardware RAID is worth the asking price (it's awful expensive).

I was eyeing up an Apple card on Ebay... are there any other cards that you could recommend?

    Many thanks!

Been using the Apple RAID card in the office for some time now. It's been switched on non-stop for the last few months since its running as a server for about 15 clients. No problems thus far. Far better than the previous system we were using which ran Windows Server 2003 (It kept crashing).

Expensive for the money. If you need specific functions (as we did) of the RAID card it is good. Else, if you can get by try and just use the software RAID that is built into the Disk Utility application in Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
