imac -> TV...HELP!!

i am trying to hook up my imac to a ciniplex tv, so i can use the tv as my monitor with cordless mouse and keypad.

i have all the necessary cables and adapters, but when i hook them all up, all that happens is my tv screen steals all the desktop icons (ie...firefox,trashcan,itunes, etc), but when i click on the firefox icon to get on the internet...the window opens on the computer screen instead of the tv!!

any suggestions??

    It sounds like you have your two "displays" arranged such that your iMac is on the left and your TV is on the right. Go into System Preferences>Displays and move your secondary display to the left side of your main displays.
