Enhance media keys for iTunes

When I played WoW, I used an extension to control iTunes from within the game. It worked much as the media keys do now, with one (great) additional feature: the name of the song you unpaused or skipped to appeared briefly on the screen, Quicksilver style.



I'm loving the media keys but I really miss this feature. Has anyone heard of a plugin that accomplishes this? If not, does anyone know if it's possible or where a starting point for writing such a plugin is?

I use GimmeSomeTune for this purpose. In addition to popping up a display with the song information, it will also fetch album artwork and song lyrics for you in the background. It also supports Last.fm if you're into that, and has integration with both iChat and the Apple Remote. And it's free!
