According to ThinkSecret we get new, lime green Up-to-Date coupons with Jag. All you bastards who are going to pirate Jag will have to do without! I'm framing my old ones.

well i still have all three of my 10.1 coupons...but i think 10.2 will easily be worth the 69 bucks i'm paying at the apple education store...just hope i get to use at least one of those lime coupons...g

Will the coupons that came with my iBook work? I bought around 5 months ago. I think I read that only purchasers after July 17 get free Jaguar but that can't be right, it's not usually like that. Not trying to flame, I just want to be sure, so I don't spend $69 on a cool looking CD.

Sorry to inform you, but the coupons are apparently not redeemable. That?s the reason I?m framing mine. I think of them as a token to help induce sales of a product-? almost like baseball cards. Collect the whole set. Maybe they should put photos of the OS programmers and Apple staff on them, or even the Think Different poster people.

    That's a fine idea!

Right now, you can use the back of these great little things to make notes, or doodle.

They're also real good for cleaning fingernails.

I thought of those uses, too, but thankfully did not yield to the temptations. By the time the G5 ships, a complete mint set running from 10.0 to 10.4 will sell on Ebay for about the same price as that new G5! And if your one of the lucky few who have the limited edition ?Three Faces of Steve? (Showing Steve as Apple CEO, Pixar CEO, and watering a sunflower) you can pretty much retire on the sale of that bad boy.

P.S.- I think to have a chance at receiving the ?Three Faces? coupon, you not only have to pay for upgrades, but also must be a .mac member.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't these only be useful for those who purchase Jaguar right before the next OS X update? What's the point of including them at this point?

You will need to use them if 10.3 is free and you want it shipped from Apple.

Talking about framing, I'm thinking about framing the Jaguar box with the Jaguar-fur X. That would look a lot better on my office wall than framed coupons. But then I might as well just frame the old Think Different posters I have sitting in a tube somewhere in a closet or get a Jaguar poster to frame. Who will donate a Jaguar poster to Escher?

Is it just me, or have those coupons been worthless for a few years now?

I can't think of a single instance where those coupons were needed since upgrading from 8.6 to 9.0. That's it.

I'm wondering why they bother with them anymore . . .

I just looked at my coupons... one says "free tech support for life on any Performa" the next one says "guaranteed skip free DVD playback on any iMac DV or your choice of Apple keyboard or mouse at 15% off" and the last one says "Free email for life!"

When Apple started preinstalling OS X on new systems, I think you needed a coupon (from 9) if you bought a computer that did not come with it installed. I bought an iBook that shipped just before they started pre-installing; I got OS X for free (I think) by sending in a coupon and form.

When 10.1 shipped, you were supposed to present a coupon from 10.0 to pick up the free upgrade kit, tho when I took mine in, they didn't want to see it. You could also send the coupon to Apple with $20 for the kit.

At least that's what I remember. There have been so many updates and every one has been handled differently, and I've been through way too many computers in the past two years!
