Actually, I'd leave this open as a thread for everyone to post when they get their hands on Jaguar.

I'll leave it up to Brad and Kickaha though.

don't be sorry Johnp ...give us a mini review of how it runs on your hardware. I never get tired of reading that stuff because everyones setup is different.

I'm installing it on my AGP G4 (Sawtooth) that had the original X Public Beta, the normal beta (10.0) and the most current version (10.1.5).

It's taking over an hour just for "Preparing Mac OS X". It also claims to need 1.2GB for the full upgrade.

Having become almost an expert at installing and re-installing Win98, Win2k and WinXP, that's about the same time wise (I always go out when installing, so I don't know the exact duration). However, Windows is still on one CD.

The third CD is the July 2002 Developer CD. I just installed the April 2002 beta, so I'll have to upgrade my machines again.

    hmurchison your review.

Install went smoothly, from both CDs (remember when 7.5 came out on 17 floppies :-) ).

Speed = Not noticeably faster but feels more crisp (snappy) to use. Networking is defiantly faster.

Enhancements= Not really had much time to play but love the new screensavers.

Compatibility= Everything seems fine all the usual suspects pshop, word, dreamweaver etc all run fine.

Other than that not much has changed, I?m sure more things will come to light the longer I use it.

I am going to do a CLEAN install on my Dual G4 when I finish the website I am working on at the moment.

Got my copy too. The install took pretty long, or at least it felt that way. But I didn't have any major problems.

I love Sherlock 3 but I didn't realize that "Find" wouldn't bring up Sherlock anymore. That was odd, I felt like I was back in OS 7.5 for a second there.

iChat is strange. I'm not sure that I like it. Though the integration with the Address Book is sweet.

The clock application would crash everytime I rebooted the machine since I stalled 10.1.1 and it never was fixed with any of the minor updates. 10.2 finally fixed that.

I hate the new startup screen. Its boring and the Apple doesn't even look that good. It feels like I'm using a Sun Sparcstation or something. Oh well, I'll just never reboot

Is iDVD one of the included apps in the 10.2 box?

    Alex.

UPGRADE on Sawtooth from 10.1.5 (nee 10.0; nee Public Beta)

    - no admin users in start up list. Not a big deal, but it's freaky not to see your login name there. Non-admins show up. I'm using "Other" to log in, which I can't find as an option in Jaguar. It's okay with a clean install on a 550 TiBook, though.

    - Classic spy menu is dead, but Menu Extra Enabler brings it back to life. I'm assuming other menu haxxies like WeatherPop will be the same way.

    - DAVE is DOA, but finding local Windows computers seems straightforward on a clean-install TiBook. I'll have to see how logging into domains, etc., works out. Advice: Nuke DAVE before installing Jaguar. (Note: Thursby says 3.1.1 isn't compatible with Jaguar.)

    - nuked my printer list, but adding printers is much, much faster. However, it can't configure my Deskjet properly, which is hooked to a JetDirect printer server. It says my 1220C is there, but it can't communicate or print to it.

    - tried running XTelevision with my Formac ProTVII card, and it brought up a cool "Something F*'d Up - Please restart screen" in several languages. I think the Japanese version said: Don't do that.

    - Text Edit is improved.

    - Starting up Classic is the same, but it updates the System 9 folder.

    - seems a little faster, but it's not necessarily bowling me over.

    - cutesy stuff, like the + sign when copying is an Aquafied green button, movement of windows, icons, etc.

    - no Software Updates yet

I'm recommending a clean system install to minimize conflicts. However, it breaks a couple of things I need, so I won't be using it as my main system just yet.

<img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" /> Anyone tried to use a windows shared printer yet? I didn't think Windows shares were that hard to get to with 10.1.5 but windows printers were a real pain, finally had to use ghostscript with a unix lp based windows printer. IS IT ANY DIFFERENT IN 10.2?????

I'll still upgrade 2maro night- When I get home from the Dallas Apple store party

But I have my hopes that they addressed the printing difficulties.

I can see some of the Local domains and the machines that have file sharing turned on for Windows 2000. But the NT servers must still be explicitly entered in to get at them. But I can browse most servers.

Printing ROCKS and it doesn't take over a minute to set up a printer now. The new Print center is head and shoulders above the old one.

Connecting from the Mac to Windows machine seemed straight-forward. Cmd-k, and any shared Windows machine shows up.

I haven't figured out the other way yet, as DAVE is broken. I may have to Read a Friggin' Manual.

Duh. Too easy. Go to Sharing, turn on Windows Sharing. The computer will show up in XP, but I haven't been able to connect quite yet. I'm sure it works, thought.

    No.

It seems to be only the OS, with associated drivers.

Any updates on the Amazon.com orders? My sister got it for me for my b-day, so I can't check them myself. I'd heard that the amazon orders would be delayed??? Any info appreciated.
