i have had to unplug my airport three times today because my ip address in system pref will change from 10.0.1.2 to 169.444.45i4.4o4 or something like that....and when it changes i cant use email or internet...anybody else with this problem (thought i solved it by locking my network settings, but it still changed by itself)....hopefully apple will update/fix this soon as, even though i like 10.2 much better than 10.1.5, i will change back if i am constantly knocked off network......g

I haven't had a problem with it in 10.2 or have I really had a problem with it in 10.1.5. I would say once a month I will have to powercycle my modem and restart my computer to refresh it. Why it all of the sudden switches to a 169 ip I don't know. But than again it doesn't bug me to much it's always good to powercycle your broadband modem.

When you get a 169.xxx IP address it means you're not connected to the net for whatever reason. 169 is like a self identifying address - it gives itself that number when it can't get a connection.

Hard to speculate why that may be.

    Check these knowledge base articles:

...or use the AppleCare button in Sherlock 3 (cool feature!) and search for AirPort 169 IP address.

thanks for the replies...never happened to me in 10.1.5...at apple knowledge it seems that some are having this problem with 10.2....will check sherlock (have to re-think sherlock as a tool other than just to search my harddrive)....g
