Instant Messaging without clients?

I'd like to be able to send a message to my wife's laptop (which is connected to mine via the same wifi network) without an IM client. Perhaps have it pop up in a growl window or something.



Can I do this via applescript? or is there some small app that allows this.



I really would like to be able to do this via growl and not an IM client.

    Do you both use Leopard? In Leopard's iChat, it allows messaging through Bonjour, which allows you to chat with other computers inside your own network without registering for an AIM/.Mac account.
