iChat Menubar Problem

You know that little speech bubble icon on the top right corner of my screen? When you click on it, it usually gives you a menu of status changes and the ability to either go to a chat with one of your available buddies or open your Buddy List--I can't do either of the latter? When I click on a buddy name or to get my Buddy List, I simply get a system sound. "Bonk." What gives?

I think you have to have iChat open to use those function, don't you?

No, Jamie, you don't need to have iChat open. You can sign on, put an away message up, and sign off all from the menu without having to launch the actual app. If someone IMs you or you choose a name or "buddy list" from the menu, iChat will then launch.

That said, I have no idea what the broblem is. Have you logged out lately? Perhaps you ought to try killing iChat's daemon -- maybe that'd help.
