MacBook Pro Price

Okay, so for a 15" MacBook Pro (Last Gen), 2.4GHz, 2GB Ram, 200GB HD, and the graphics card, its $1300. How much is it expected to go down before July? So instead of buying it on sale now, wait until June to buy it, would it be cheaper? Or something better for same price?

Reason for this post is my dad believes that it will be cheaper to get it right before college... since I don't need it now. But I am arguing that the black friday price (1300) is the lowest it will be. What do you think?

I don't think there will be any of that model left by next June.

But the new model will be. Do you think it will be priced at about 1300?

Not no, HELL NO! The $1300 price is $50 below the price of the refurbed model from Apple. If you keep waiting for a better price, you'll never buy a computer, and that is a damn good price for that model. Will there be more models coming? Of course, but there is no way to know if you'll get a comparable deal to this down the road.

I'm pissed, I try to explain that 750 dollars off is amazing. But he doesn't listen. He thinks he is the deal master and can find any kind of deals. I have been looking for 2 weeks. I mean, I have until July, but this seems like a deal of a lifetime.

I wouldn't sweat it. Seems like he already knows that you need a laptop for school and so the worst case scenario is he'll just end up paying more and you'll get a better laptop. I would make a bargain with him that you'll drop the subject today if he promises to buy you a new MBPro in July. You'll get a free iPod then, too.

Haha, Ya, I hope I can get it off the site. But sadly, I will probably get it refurbished. Which I don't think they include the iPod on refurbished items.

No, they don't, but the Mac is considerably cheaper as a refurb, and carries the same warranty as a new model. Give your dad a break, he's paying for it, and in the end you won't be able to tell the difference between a refurb and a new model.

I don't know what you know about MacBooks, Pro or otherwise, but, getting AppleCare with one is a VERY good idea, as repairs are not at all cheap. If you buy through the education store, you get a better price on AppleCare, even for a refurbed model.

Can you add the educational discount to a refurb model?

No, but any accessories are sold at the educational price, if there is an edu discount for the item. For example, adding a display, AppleCare, some, but not all, software, etc. There are also refurbed displays, but like the refurbed Macs, they're priced below the educational price to begin with, so no further discount is given.

You can access the edu store from the main online Apple Store, and from there go to the refurb page, but the prices on refurbs are the same. Software discounts for come and go for some titles, and remain the same for other titles with respect to edu discounts. See what's offered when you buy your Mac.

Ya, I already checked it out, it was 1350 for the last generation macbook pro 15" with lowest specs. The student discount is only like 100 off... gah.
