Printers on Jaguar

Posted:

I started this thread so there would be a place for people to post their successes and failures on using their given printers on Jaguar.

I will start.

I can not get my HP Photosmart 1115 to work with Jaguar.

You might should also mention if these printers *ever* worked in Mac OS X.

I have an HP PSC 750 All In One printer.

After reading your post I tried, again, to get it to work with OSX, Jag this time. It worked

Went to HP site looking for newest news or downloads, their site SUX so BADLY! You find what you want quickly, but if you keep looking just in case... You wind up with 4 different pages that really should be the same destination. Very confusion and just BAD! Anyway...

Downloaded newest software, which I am sure I did before. Installed and followed directions.

Restarted. Some quirkiness getting OSX to "see" the driver. I tried twice it failed, I selected the printer again and hit add "again" and worked. Go Figure.

Saved different print preferences (just black & color) that worked. Printed in Black, Grayscale, and in Color, all good. Hit print, then cancelled, then printed, all good, that never worked before!

EVEN THOUGH APPLE'S SITE DOES NOT LIST MY PRINTER AS COMPATIBLE.... All is good

    Good Luck.

I have an HP DeskJet 640c. It is a faily nice bottom level printer. the driver was not released for OS X until almost a year later, but it worked just fine for me then. Now, Jaguar seems to support my printer just fine, plug and play. I have had no problems so far. Everything works wonderfully now.

HP920c .... no problems, worked out of the box with X.1 and now with X.2 .... even use printer sharing and can print to it from everything on the airport network.

I've had this problem on two different machines, and iMac and Pizmo. And with three differenct Epson printers 820, 850NE, and 740. In all cases the printer was NOT connected through a hub.

In all cases the problem was resolved by reinstalling the printer drivers. And in all cases the original drivers were from and 'acquired' 6c115 install disk.

For the 820 and 850 the problem was from the iMac SE DV. I downloaded the drivers from epson (these were the 10.1 I guess) and installed. All cured.

For the 740 the problem was solved by physically removing the EPSON folder from the /Library/Printers folder and reinstalling from the Jag disks that came with the dual 867 I bought.

    Hope this helps.

I bought 10, 10.1, 10.2 Jaaaaguar and still I'm way slower than I was in OS 9. No matter what we do, we are slower. Fine graphics, spinning beach balls, aqua scrolls, whatever. But Office is slow, IE is slow, Netscape 7 is slow, everything is slow. I want speed now. That's the bottom line.

    it's about printers, not speed. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

My HP2200d has always worked fine with OS X. But with jaguar, I have lost almost all functionality. It still prints, but I can't set the quality, double sided printing, and some other stuff. Why is this?

    Hi,

enable CUPS in X and download GIMP print (versiontracker)

Maybe some of you have will have their problem fixed.

    good luck!

Well, my Epson EPL-5700i has never worked under Mac OS X. Epson never released an OS X driver for it and unfortunately. I think Epson has no plans to do so in the future either.

I've been putting off buying a new, OS X compatible printer since my old Rev.A iMac still runs OS 9 and I can print from there. I should never have bought this cheap Epson laser piece of sh!t.

    /end rant

Almost all Brother printers do not work in 10.2 It is kind of ironic because when I bought my MFC8300, it was one of the few multifunction laser printers that worked for Mac. Now Brother seems to have given up creating drivers. If only Gimp-Print supported Brother printers!

    Suspect: EPSON 785EPX.

Ever worked in OSX? : Yes, from 10.1 and up

Works in Jag? : Yes, drivers built right in.

Dissappointments?: Yes, Card reader does not

    work in OSX

    Overall satisfaction: Yes, most definately.

Weirdest thing: Not having to install driver.

    How about you?

So far no problems using an Epson Stylus Photo 820 and a first generation TiBook with 10.2 (well, same as 10.1-- still seems to be missing some features like borderless printing).

My hp LaserJet 1200se works beautifully when physically connected via USB. I haven't had luck with USB Printer Sharing though. <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=7&t=001728"; target="_blank">Anyone have an answer?</a>

Epson Stylus Photo 870. Works perfectly in Jaguar. In fact I didn't even have to set it up... the first time i went to print something, it said no printer available so I said Add printer and it automatically found the Epson and set it up. Then I just said Print and it did. No problems so far.

    Same problem as Escher here:

My HP870Cxi never worked under MacOS X.

No drivers available. HP doesn't plan to release drivers for this old serial printer.

I have an USB -&gt; Serial adapter, I've installed GIMP print under 10.2, but not luck so far.

If someone has an idea and/or would be kind enough to help me, please post <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=7&t=001650"; target="_blank">here</a>.

This isn't a jaguar related problem but I thought i'd share it with you anyway.

After reinstalling 10.1.5 my Epson 740 wouldn't work. reinstalled drivers - nothing. Luckily I have Applecare and the Apple techie solved it in 30 seconds by telling me to remove the Canon.... yes, Canon....... folder from the libraries. After that my 740 driver was recognised straight away.

Way to go, Applecare !!!! ( Is that what you say on that side of the pond? )
